“The support of the organization was heartwarming.”
The greatest passion of O
All the values of O-utrecht are united in Fietsenvoor.nl, an organization that “cycles for charity.” Fietsenvoor.nl is our own yearly charity event in France. The idea originally came from Hans and Rianne (associates at O), but now everyone at O-utrecht is involved, whether as a cyclist or a volunteer. The locals in the small French village where we cycle have also joined the Fietsenvoor.nl cycling team. This fall, a Dutch local TV station nominated O-utrecht’s Hans and Rianne as “heroes from the heart.”
Simple: we want to make a difference, even if it's a small one. We want to prove that everyone can make things happen. Can two people raise 200,000 euros by approaching individual sponsors? Yes, they can. By firmly believing in this idea, we have already helped several local charity projects for disabled people.
What do we do?
O's task covers the complete organization of the event. This includes the recruitment of cyclists – only fifty, because we want it to remain a small event where everyone is really involved. In addition, we are responsible for PR for the event, for the production and for designing and implementing a social media strategy, which required forming a community. In short:
* house style
* social media
* charity website
* promotional film
* team clothing
* event management
The making of a book
The funds we raised in the first two years enabled us to finance a very special book – a book about the least known yet most common muscular disease among adults in the Netherlands, Myotone Dystrofie. Its title, GeenGezicht (“NoFace”), refers to the destructive effect the disease has on facial muscles.
The current managing partners and owners of O-utrecht, Rianne Engels and Hans Blaauwendraat, wrote this book in their spare time.
